Job Search Secrets

job search secrets
If you want to hike in the mountains, you don't go to Florida. Yet, when you want warmth in the winter, you pack for Key West. Why? Because if you want something, you need to go where it is available and accessible.

All the job search secrets in the world can be boiled down to this one principle. When you are searching for a job, go where the jobs are available and accessible.

Ah, but in this tough job economy that seems easier said than done.

In more stable times, you looked for openings by reading the classified ads, trade journals, or talking to a headhunter. Then you called the number in the paper, sent in your resume, aced the interview, and landed your next job. Easy, right?

Times have changed and while jobs are harder to find - they do exist. Companies have problems that need solutions. They need you.

To connect your skills with their need, simply adapt your job search tactics to the changing times.

Consider these recent Statistics on Source of Hire by Drake Beam Morin:

job search statistics
Jobs found through direct mail, career fairs, and classified ads were negligible.

Jobs found directly through the internet - 7%.

Recruiters found positions for 12% of job seekers.

Jobs found through networking - an overwhelming 71%.

Your secret to job search success is networking.

Other job search methods are valuable, but only as tools to land you leads, contacts, and referrals. In other words, go to the career fair to meet key people in your desired industry. Read the classifieds to discover openings but arrive at that interview with referrals from contacts the company respects.

By all means, use the internet, but not to post your resume expecting someone will call.

Consider this:

When you use life-changing job hunt, incorporating all the methods above:

"...you have a 1,200 percent better chance of finding a job
than if you just send out resumes!"

Richard Bolles, What Color is Your Parachute

Use the internet to uncover leads, tap into your contacts, and then expand your network. Your network is the key to job search success.

You want to find a job. You need one that is available and accessible. Both of these things are possible - through strategic job networking.

By doing what works, you will soon be back to work.
