The Cover Letter for a Resume
While your "killer" resume exists to highlight your skills and achievements, it is the cover letter that will introduce employers to the idea that you are perfect for the job.
A well-written cover letter for a resume sweetens the deal, much like icing crowns a cake. Don't miss this important element.

Use the following guidelines to write your cover letter, or even better, just download the cover letter template we have included here.
And remember to keep your cover letter brief, no more than one page at the most.
- Header - As with any formal letter, begin with your contact information in the top left-hand corner. Skip two lines and then include the employer's contact information. Skip two more lines and add your formal salutation: Dear (recipient's full name,).
- Paragraph 1 - Explain your reason for writing in a way that grabs the reader's interest.
- Paragraph 2 - 3 - Describe why you are qualified for the position. Highlight your accomplishments and skills (bullets points are good, as they will catch the reader's eye.) Summarize why you are right for the job.
- Paragraph 4 - Direct the reader to your resume. Give times when you are available to be interviewed and mention that you will be calling to follow-up soon. Thank them for their time. Include your name, phone number, and email once again.
- Close - End your letter with a standard closing, such as, "sincerely." Skip four lines, print, and then sign your name.
